About Csound:
The historic sound synthesis program
This is an update of Jens Killians 2001 port of Csound, making available the features that were not available back then.
For those not familiar, Csound is a venerable audio and music synthesis program -- Barry Vercoes first release from MIT was in 1985, but its ancestry goes right back to 1957, with Max Matthews series of Music-N programs. Despite its long history, though, it is in wide use today, and has been ported to nearly every platform. This is because over that time it has steadily gained in capability and flexibility, until it has become one of the most powerful such systems around. I find I have been using it quite a lot -- especially to emulate a Hammond B3!

Details about this version:
This package is built from the final (2005) release of Series 4 Csound. (Current development is Series 5, but that uses libraries not available in BeOS.) It does not, however, include the GUI opcodes available on other platforms because the required FLTK library also is not available. Otherwise the core csound is complete. There are other stand-alone utilities that usually go with the system, but these also are currently not included (simply because niether I nor Jens have ever compiled them!)
Perhaps they will be added later.
February 2008: There was a bug (not mine! -- in the original 4.23 code, all platforms) that caused a crash when trying to read an audio file. This has been fixed and the package updated.
This download includes Jens BeOS Server for connecting to audio and MIDI, and his Shell for (optionally) running csound instead of using the command line. A tar archive of the Csound manual is now also here because it is otherwise now hard to find. The (unchanged) PatchBay code that was in the original BeOS release has been dropped, as if you dont already have it you should be able to find it elsewhere.
[Apologies -- I know apostrophes and quotes are missing, but BeBits still screws them up!]

Details about this version:
This is the source for Csound 4.23 itself, with the few fixes necessary to compile on BeOS (plus the audio-file crash fix mentioned above) and a suitable Makefile. It also has the CsoundServer and CsoundShell sources from Juns Killian.
The unchanged sources for the Csound analysis utilities (which have not yet been compiled on BeOS) are not included, but can be retrieved from the archive at ftp://ftp.cs.bath.ac.uk/pub/dream
