About Pioneer:
Although it may be natural for new users, I find it rather irritating to be wade through overlapping, screen-hogging folder windows.
I prefer the dual-pane model of the Windows Explorer. So, I've tried to adopt Explorer features while using the conventions of the BeOS Tracker.
Features
*** Dual-pane ***
On the left-side of the window you have a list of folders & volumes anchored by the Desktop folder. On the right-side, you'll find the list of files & folders available in the folder selected on the left. The separator in the middle is draggable so both panes can be resized.
*** Multihreaded ***
Both the tree-view and file-view are on separate threads from the main window. This means you can expand multiple folders at the same time with no significant delays. In addition, independent threads are used for all copy and move operations.
*** Cut, Copy, Paste, Paste Link ***
I've always preferred the method of copying or moving files in two steps to drag-and-drop. Pioneer uses the standard key-combinations for shortcuts.
*** File progress windows ***
Windows are displayed to indicate the progress of any file cut, copy or paste operation. These windows do not prevent the user to continue using the parent instance of Pioneer.
*** Property windows ***
File properties such as date, time & size are displayed in a format similar to the Tracker 'Get info' window.
*** File launching ***
Double-click on a file and the associated application will be launched.
*** Live view (node monitored) ***
Any file operations performed in other applications or using Tracker will update views in Pioneer.
