Hi
I was trying to add some 0.82 things but now that 0.90 are broken in BeOS I have also doped this but my changes can be good to have around :)

http://www.modeen.se/Transmission/Transmission_0.82.zip

this link are both some diff and a built bin 0.82 but the GUI are still in 0.7 except that it can list files in a torrent. Transmission probably only work on Zeta/Dano/Bone/Haiku , this one are developed and tested on Zeta nothing else.

- Peer exchange (PEX) compatible with Azureus and uTorrent . I do need that feature for private torrent sites that only allow certain clients.
Hopefully the high cpu usage will be fixed and having a torrent in the background will not disturb playback of a movie.

Building from source in Zeta 1.2
 By NicePics - Posted on July 9, 2006 - 17:57:01   (#20132)

Got the error "Unsupported BeOS version" so I typed uname -a and Zeta 1.2 is 'BeOS 2006 6.2 ...'.
Open the configure file in stylededit and search for any instances of "unsupported".

Change the line:
6.0*|5.0.4) # Zeta or R5 / BONE beta 7

to:
6.2*|5.0.4) # Zeta or R5 / BONE beta 7

and building Transmission from source should work.

Wow *that* simple

Corrupting first file of download?
 By Ram - Posted on April 28, 2006 - 06:25:58   (#19600)
Current version when comment was posted: 0.5
I had a strange problem.

When I download a torrent with several files (a folder of videos for instance) the first file is corrupt.

I tried downloading again and again and each time a different first few bytes were found in the first file. The second video file (.avi) however started working...

I can give you the torrent file to check if it works, it should stream the first video as they're all streamable videos.

I can e-mail the AUTHOR the torrent file :)

Regards,
Ram.

Well is there a howto or any clue how this is supposed to work? Ot at least what it is supposed to do?

K is not 1024 bytes, it's Kelvin...

For computer use k is always 1024 bytes, there is no exception, there is no such thing as Ki or Kib or KiB etc... It's just hoax made by some heretics who don't want to follow traditions.

Computers do not follow European SI standards, because computers are universal. Computers have own set of standards and recommended standards (RS, like in RS-232). Actually some old-timers might know that some of the conventions used with computers are Japanese... Like disk sizes where 1 "megabyte" is 1024000 bytes and not 1048576 bytes like it should. But that's a marketing trick, not standard ;)

got one compiled by mmadia in beshare that work.

So far i like it, work well, have yet to crash.

Some thing i don't like is the "pause" to delete something in the queu (remember me of the stupid behavior of having to unmount to do something to a volume in drive setup, perhaps a security).

Another thing anoying is that i always keep my partition very fill, so i sometime have to put a file on another partition, current destination setting make that anoying, in other word all the torrent in the queu must go to the same volume. not sure how to change this, perhaps a fall back destination in case of no more place on prefered volume.

Lastly, i would put the tread priority lower than normal for those that are not related to display anything. Downloading a torrent require no realtime or user interaction snapyness.

Rebuilt version works wonderfully!

According to ldd, the BONE build still depends on libzeta.so, like it was just built on Zeta with libcrypto disabled. I'd like to mirror a BONE or even net_server build though, just get in touch with me.

libCrypto

Openssl implements a ton of things related to security. One of these is an SHA1 hash implementation. This is used in bittorrent to verify file contents. I won't go into the details, you can read the theory and specs at www.bittorrent.com.

Transmission will use openssl's SHA1 implementation if the person compiling dosen't add --disable-openssl to the ./configure options and they have openssl installed on their system. This has the unfortunate consequence of dynamicly linking a library that not everyone will have by default.

Curiously enough, Transmission has it's own built-in SHA1 hash function as a fallback. Why it just dosen't use that by default and have you force the openssl inclusion, I'll never understand.

Anyhow, that's the answer to that question.

OK It works... I don't think it needs libcrypto really, i think they forgot to remove it during compilation. I dont think Transmission uses libcrypto.

hey ram!

download the openssl package, libcrypto.so is part of it, install it to your config/lib folder and Transmission should work!

Tim

>K == 1024

You are right that k (kilo) is equal to 1000, but it is often used to represent 1024 when talking about computers. But that K should mean 1024 I have never seen, and I think it's wrong. The right prefix to use for 1024 (2^10) if one wants to be picky is Ki (kibi).

I have updated wikipedia List of Bittorrent clients to include transmission, and while doing that wikipedia made it a 32px icon :)

Please change it from the 'blocks' (plain default) and substitute this for the address:

Looking forwards to seeing the BeBits Transmission entry being updated.

FYI BeOS Mr X:
The k for kilo should be lower-case, not upper.

I am using transmission 0.4 for BONE
(and I renamed the file transmission to 'torrent' it just makes it easier for me)
Is this common with anyone else? I also noticed, maybe its just a quirk but I like to have the details exactly.
The upload/download rate is measured in 'kbps'
this is very vague and confusing, it does not have proper casing which would indicate the exact value.
I think it is meaning to be in kilobytes/per second, and it would be like this: 'KBps'
If it was in Kilobits/per second: 'Kbps'
or just KB/s or Kb/s . I am not sure if you can specifically fix that, Eric
(maybe you just compile it or BeOS?) but it is definately something to note.

it should be possible for someone to submit a more recent build. i just built the package from cvs today. you will need the same recent packages of jam and gcc that are required for building haiku or handbrake. more information about getting and building the source is here: http://transmission.m0k.org/developers.php

We need more good Torrent's clients. Transmission comes to help us. The Gui is usefull, but the sintax is easy, just run with the .torrent name. I'm on an P4 and it really uses cpu :P But that's ok, at least i will get my new anime ;)
