Hi Zenja,
Thanks for your request!
In the future Niue projects will be supporting folders inside projects as wel. With this you can put all related files in separated folders...

Code autocompletion is sweet. May I suggest a future feature expansion? I'd love to see the ability to group files into categories / groups. For example, large projects usually have hundreds of files, so it makes life easier if there was a way to group / shrink project files.

Hi 0033 Thanks for your efforts in releasing this new version.
Regarding the key combination to switch between opened files. Would it be possible to also have it while you are editing the file? Currently seems its only possible if you are in the opened files panel.
Thanks again and congratulations!

Hi all,
I've just uploaded version 4 of Niue! After some weeks of hardly any progress I restarted work on this version two weeks ago and just finished most of the release goals today. There are still a couple new things left out, which are now planned for the next version, to be expected somewhere in October.
Niue *should on both R5, zeta and Haiku, development is done on zeta for the time being so there are some known problems with Haiku, like no mouse-wheel scrolling. When Haiku R1 alpha goes live I will switch to Haiku for development and focus will be fully on Haiku.
Along with many small improvements the biggest change is the code-completion module, which I'm pretty confided with. I'd like to hear your opinions, as always!
Feel free to email with any bugs, tips or requests... (takolansbergenNOSPAMgmail.com)

Just a thought; for the sake of consistency with other BeOS apps, maybe Command+G to switch windows and Command+n (n=number key) to select a specific window could work?
The former is used by Terminal, and the latter is used by BeIDE (to switch in reverse order, the BeOS standard generally involves adding shift, e.g., shift+command+G).
I've not tried Niue yet, but it does look very good -- a superior replacement for the buggy (and dangerous) BeIDE is much-needed!

The problem for developers with the ALT+TAB way is going to previous implies something like Shift+Alt+TAB which for me is not really ergonomical :-/
Well I commented the WIN key just as example. Any other (ALT/CTRL/SHIFT)+(cursors) combination would do

On my old Keyboard there is no "win"-key...
Mostly key combination like alt+tab or strg+tab is used to switch between open windows...
...but I never mind since I am not a developer...

Hi Tako, thanks for the congrats ;)
When I have a set of files open, i think it will improve its usability, a key combination like ALT/WIN+(up/down) to switch between the files opened, so i dont need to use the mouse. Like you can do in Visin wich chat windows or in Kate(kde). With this Niue will become my default editor:)

Hi,
Progress is (very) slow atm, I'm really busy with other things than Haiku/Niue :(
In august I'm backpacking in Russia so hereby I promise to release a build of the sources before than. This will probably not be a fully checked/debugged release though, after Russia rl will be more quiet and I'll be spending more time on Niue...
I'm still in doubt if I should put the project on Osdrawer to see if there's more people who would like to work on Niue in the future, the code base is a big mess right now and pretty un-understandable for anyone except me. Cleaning the code up is not a fun task and not really a priority for me. The sources are available by request though, so far I've had one email from someone asking for the code.
Eventually, after Haiku R1, the sources will be documented and cleaned to be released as open-source and Niue will become a open-source project.
As always, please please provide me with some feedback, I need to know if the ui is intuitive enough to be used without a manual, are the menu's arranged in logical manner, which functions do you really miss, and so on...
Cheers,
0033
p.s. It's a bit late but congrats to everyone in Spain ;)

Hi all,
Just to let you know, after two weeks of extremely nice and hot weather here in Holland, I've restarted work on Niue a couple of days ago. The Code Completion is now finished and I'm working on improvements on the Visual Designer and I'm figuring out how to implement a makefile generator. A next release of Niue (v4) is planned for mid-June. Bugs, feature-requests, tips, this is the moment to let me know smilies/wink.gif
A preliminary changelist:
Main
- Added Code Completion
- Added a New Window option
- Added an option to turn off Code Completion
- Added a shortcut to Icon-o-Matic in the Export dialog
Tools
- Added a Align to Grid button in Visual Designer
- Grid size is used as window size when creating new projects from Visual Designer
- Visual Designer input now uses true bounds instead of width & height
- Item names are now live in Visual Designer

May I suggest to look at Entice Designer (http://www.dprogramming.com/entice.php) and the code it generates?
It's a GUI designer for the DFL library (D Language).
Why I'm suggesting you to take a look at it?
Because from all the GUI designers that do "GUI source code generation" (instead of saving/loading as resources) I've seen, it is the less obtrusive one.
I mean, the generated GUI code looks really clean, and doesn't gets in your way.
You do not feel you're "fighting" that code, thus you're more likely to use it :)
Thanks for your work!

The code-backup tool is also finished mostly, I've now started to work on a way to load ui layouts in the Visual Designer from existing code.

A lot of sourcecode comes from (or is inspired by) other projects. F.i. most of the syntax highlighting code comes from the editor Yate. But there are also large part that I've written myself like the Visual Designer and browsing/opening/saving/exporting the projects.
For the next version (2-3 months) are planned:
- A source-backup/version control tool
- Improved Search and Replace
- The earlier promised makefile-generator
- (Some) support for existing code in Visual-Designer
- Whatever comes along, and many more
p.s. I've added an Align to Grid button to the Visual Designer, thanks for the tip ;)

Impressing 0033
Somehow has a little of all needed things:
- Editor
- UI generator
- Project managementv
I hope you are not coing all that form scratch :) there are many projects around to get code from.
As requested feature: Can you make elements attach to the grid? or maybe a button that just arranges all them to the grid??
None UI generator in BeOS had it!

I had no problem to open a new project with zeta 1.2.
Only mouse-wheel still wont work for me... no idea why.
Very nice program and well documented. Wished I could program much better.
boot/develop/headers and libs are needed, isn't it? What else for minimum use?
Thx Bruno

Where exactually do you run into this bug, I can't seem to reproduce it running Zeta 1.2.0. Do mean clicking 'New Project' in the 'File' menu??
Thanks for your report,

When I open Niue, Clicking on File --> New causes it to crash.
I use Zeta 1.5.
Other than that, it works great.

I am not a programmer either, but I still like how your project is shaping up. A couple of observations:
The screenshot shows that proportional fonts are being used in the editor. I believe it is preferable to use a fixed-width font instead, so maybe you consider changing the default font.
I am not sure if it is relevant, but I wanted to make you aware of a project called GuiBerry, which may be a source of inspiration/code for your project. GuiBerry is a QuickRes + GUI editor by Momoziro (a Japanese dev). Development is kind of stalled, but the sources ara available here:
http://f-x.haiku-talkers.net/archive/GuiBerry/GuiBerry-1.1.zip
Last but not least, have you considered using OSDrawer.net to manage your project?
Keep up the good work!

For the next version I've planned a makefile generator, which automatically creates/updates a makefile according to the files in your project, plus some extra settings like libraries etc.
Also Drag 'n' Drop needs major improvements. There will also be a preferences panel and a snippet manager.

I'm still looking into it, but this seems to be a very cool programming tool - especially syntax hilite looks very nice. Keep up the good work!
Perhaps you should add some more Drag'n'drop support - it is sometimes easier to just drop (multiple) files to a project.
It would be also great to have makefile generated for you when you open an existing project folder (existing sources) - or simply a menu option to do that.

Maby we can work together
I developed Projectonceptor (full Application framework with Target UI /API and Class design)
http://www.projectconceptor.de
http://www.projectconceptor.de/component/option,com_rsgallery2/Itemid,2/page,inline/id,5/catid,2/limitstart,0/
Later my plan was also to include also a Code Editor.
Maby it´s possible to work togehter to push both Projects :)
Projectconceptor alread offers Undo/Redo Support
Makro support, Plugin support, Translator Support, Printingsupport, Toolbar and so on.
Already sent you an email but it seem like it was marked as spam :).
I also Developing at the Moment a TextViewCompleter Class for the ProjectConceptor wich would allow to create a "easy" autocomletition.
Just a idea :)

As of now all source-code of Niue is available. Furthermore I've added drag 'n drop support to Niue :)
At the moment I'm really stuck at creating decent syntax highlighting for c++ files, if you can help please let me know! What I'm basically looking for is a BTextView that does elementary syntax highlighting.
Help with this is greatly appreciated, also don't hesitate to grab the source-code and alter/improve it, just let me know...

I like how the app automagically finds projects with makefiles. I would not go with overisized Build buttons - a toolbar may be a better option.
